The best crossbow broadheads for turkey
A turkey is a small target with no heavy bone to punch through. You want the widest possible wound, which is the opposite of a deer setup.

Turkey broadheads prioritize cutting width over penetration, which reverses the deer logic. A turkey is a small target with no heavy bone in the vital area, so a 2.3-inch mechanical that would be a poor choice for a quartering deer shot is the right tool here.
A crossbow has far more energy than a turkey requires. What a turkey requires is a wound the bird cannot fly away from, in a vital zone the size of a fist, from an animal that is frequently moving.
In detail
Five heads for turkey
Rage Xtreme Turkey
A 2-blade mechanical with a 2.3 by 0.75 inch cut, built on an anodized aluminum ferrule with the X-treme series shock collar. On a turkey you are not trying to punch through a shoulder; you want the widest possible wound in a small target, and this head is built for exactly that.
| Published spec | Value |
|---|---|
| Weight | 100 gr |
| Cut | 2.3 x 0.75 in |
| Blades | 2, mechanical |
| Ferrule | Anodized aluminum |
| Retention | X-treme series shock collar |
| Per pack | 2 |
What it does well
- A 2.3-inch cut is the widest single dimension here
- Purpose-built for turkey rather than adapted from a deer head

Swhacker #202 125 gr
A 2.25-inch cut from a 2-blade expandable, with a patented two-stage design: wing blades make the entry hole and the primary blades stay folded behind them until impact. At 125 grains it also shifts weight forward, which is the right direction for a heavy-bolt setup.
| Published spec | Value |
|---|---|
| Weight | 125 gr |
| Cutting diameter | 2.25 in |
| Blades | 2, expandable |
| Type | Mechanical, two-stage |
| Ferrule | Aircraft-grade aluminum |
| Blades material | Stainless steel; hardened steel tip |
| Per pack | 3 |
What it does well
- 2.25 inches is the widest cut on this page
- Two-stage design protects the primary blades until impact
- 125 grains helps front-of-center on a heavy setup
- Replacement blades are sold separately, so the ferrule is reusable

Grim Reaper X-Bow Razor Cut
A 3-blade mechanical with a 1.5-inch cut on a one-piece stainless tip, and the listing states it is engineered for crossbows and stable to 400 fps. That speed statement is the thing to look for: plenty of mechanicals are sold for compound bows and come apart at crossbow velocity.
| Published spec | Value |
|---|---|
| Weight | 100 gr |
| Cutting diameter | 1.5 in |
| Blades | 3 |
| Type | Mechanical |
| Rated speed | Up to 400 fps |
| Tip | One-piece stainless steel |
| Accuracy claim | Field-point accuracy to 100 yd |
What it does well
- A published speed rating, which most broadhead listings omit
- A 1.5-inch cut from three blades
- A one-piece stainless tip holds an edge through bone

Slick Trick Standard Pro Series and Magnum
Four .035-inch stainless blades in a short Super Steel ferrule giving 2-1/4 inches of total cut, with a 4-edge bone-splitting tip and Alcatraz blade lock. Short, fat and fixed: it flies like a field point because there is barely any ferrule forward of the blades to plane in the wind.
| Published spec | Value |
|---|---|
| Weight | 100 gr |
| Total cut | 2-1/4 in (1-1/8 in + 1-1/8 in) |
| Blade thickness | 0.035 in |
| Blades | Stainless, 4 |
| Ferrule | Super Steel |
| Blade lock | Alcatraz |
| Tip | 4-edge bone splitting |
What it does well
- 2-1/4 inches of total cut from a fixed head
- A short ferrule means less wind planing
- Alcatraz blade lock keeps blades seated through bone
- Explicitly suited to crossbows, compounds and recurves

Muzzy Trocar HBX Hybrid
Four blades: two fixed, two mechanical, with the fixed pair offset to induce spin. It is a genuine middle path — the fixed blades cut on contact and the mechanicals widen the channel, and the chisel tip and stainless ferrule are built to survive bone.
| Published spec | Value |
|---|---|
| Weight | 100 gr |
| Blades | 4 (2 fixed, 2 mechanical) |
| Type | Hybrid |
| Tip | Chisel |
| Ferrule | Stainless steel |
| Design note | Offset fixed blades induce spin |

What it does well
- Fixed blades cut on contact even if the mechanicals do not open
- Offset fixed blades stabilize the arrow in flight
- A stainless ferrule and chisel tip for bone

How we picked
Cutting width first, then whether the head is purpose-built for the application. We have deliberately included fixed heads too, because some hunters prefer a head-and-neck shot where a wide mechanical is unnecessary. See our methodology.
The comparison
| Head | Weight | Cut | Type | Purpose built for turkey |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rage Xtreme Turkey | 100 gr | 2.3 x 0.75 in | Mechanical, 2 blade | Yes |
| Swhacker #202 | 125 gr | 2.25 in | Mechanical, two-stage | No — widest general-purpose cut |
| Grim Reaper X-Bow Razor Cut | 100 gr | 1.5 in | Mechanical, 3 blade | No |
| Slick Trick Magnum | 100 gr | 2-1/4 in total | Fixed, 4 blade | No |
| Muzzy Trocar HBX | 100 gr | Hybrid, 4 blade | No |
Why width beats penetration here
On a deer you are trying to reach both lungs through a rib cage, sometimes at an angle, sometimes past a shoulder. Penetration is the constraint. On a turkey the vital area is small and shallow, and the arrow will pass through regardless — a crossbow has energy to spare for a bird.
So the limiting factor becomes margin for error. A 2.3 in cut forgives an inch of misplacement in a way a 1-1/8 in fixed head does not, and on a target this small an inch is a realistic error.
Two schools of turkey shot
The body shot, with a wide mechanical
Aim for the vitals and let a wide cut do the work. This is what the Rage Xtreme Turkey is built for: 2.3 x 0.75 in, two blades, anodized aluminum ferrule, X-treme series shock collar. Two per pack, and the collar is a per-shot consumable.
The head and neck shot, with a fixed head or a guillotine
Some hunters prefer a head-and-neck shot, which is either an instant kill or a clean miss. That favors a fixed head or a dedicated wide guillotine-style head, and it demands much more of your shooting than a body shot does. We do not stock a guillotine head here; the fixed options on this page are the closest.
What else changes for turkey
- A decoy and a blind, which means your cocked width matters more than in deer season — turkey hunting is close-range blind work.
- Shot distance. Turkey shots are typically very close, frequently inside 25 yards. Your 20-yard aim point does most of the work.
- Movement. A turkey rarely stands still for long, and a crossbow is slow to reload. First shot or no shot.
- Noise. At 15 yards a turkey will hear the shot. See crossbow noise.
Check your state rules carefully
Crossbow turkey regulations are frequently different from crossbow deer regulations in the same state — different seasons, different permissions, sometimes different equipment rules. Check your own wildlife agency's turkey regulations specifically rather than assuming the deer rules carry over. See crossbow hunting regulations.
