Privacy policy

What we collect, what we do not, and what happens when you click a buy link.

The short version

String & Stock has no accounts, no logins and no newsletter. We do not sell data. The only personal information we ever hold is what you type into the contact form, and the only tracking is aggregate analytics plus whatever the retailer does after you leave.

Who we are

String & Stock is published by Iron Mako Media. For any question about this policy or your data, email contact@stringandstock.com.

The contact form

If you use the contact form, it sends us your name, email address, the topic you selected and your message. That email goes to our inbox and is used only to reply to you and to act on what you told us.

The form also records the moment the page loaded and includes a hidden field that real visitors never fill. Both are spam defenses: a submission sent within three seconds, or with the hidden field filled, is rejected. We also limit submissions per IP address per hour. None of that is stored beyond the lifetime of the request.

We do not add contact-form addresses to any mailing list, because there is no mailing list.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are read and which buy links are clicked, in aggregate. That involves cookies set by Google and data processed on Google’s infrastructure under their terms. We do not use it to identify individual visitors and we do not attempt to.

One custom event is recorded: when you click a buy button, we log that a click happened, which merchant it went to, the product identifier and the page you were on. We record no personal information with it. If you block analytics scripts, the click still works normally.

Affiliate links and cookies

Our buy buttons pass through a redirect on our own domain, which adds our Amazon Associates identifier and forwards you to the retailer. That redirect sets no cookie of its own.

Once you arrive at the retailer, their privacy policy and their cookies apply, not ours. Amazon sets a cookie so it can attribute a purchase to us. We never see your order, your payment details or your address — only an aggregate commission report. See the affiliate disclosure.

Hosting and server logs

The site is served from a commercial hosting platform which, like all web hosts, records standard request logs containing IP addresses, user agents and requested URLs. Those logs exist for security and reliability and we do not mine them.

Product images are served from Amazon’s content delivery network, which means your browser makes a request to Amazon when a page with product images loads.

Children

This site is written for adults and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.

Your choices

  • Analytics: block scripts or use your browser’s tracking protection. Nothing on the site stops working.
  • Affiliate cookies: the retailer’s own cookie controls apply once you are on their site.
  • Your contact-form message: email us and we will delete it from the inbox.
  • No account to delete, because there are no accounts.
