How this site makes money
Affiliate commission, at no extra cost to you, with no influence on what we rank first. The plain-English version and the formal one.
The short version
String & Stock earns a commission when you buy something through our links. It costs you nothing extra, and it does not change the order we rank things in.
That is the whole arrangement. Everything below is the detail, including the formal statement the Amazon Associates program requires.
Amazon Associates
As an Amazon Associate, Iron Mako Media earns from qualifying purchases.
String & Stock participates in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. Our Associates tracking identifier is imm-stringstock-20, and every Amazon link on this site carries it.
When you click a buy button here, you pass through a redirect on our own domain which adds that identifier and sends you to Amazon. The price you pay is exactly the same as it would be if you had gone to Amazon directly.
Which programs we actually earn from
At launch, every money link on this site goes to Amazon. That is the only program currently earning for us.
- Amazon — active. Varies by category (Amazon Associates)
- Velocity Outdoor (Ravin, CenterPoint) — we are joined to this advertiser’s affiliate program on a network, but do not yet hold the site-level tracking credentials for it. Until we do, its products link to Amazon instead, which earns today. We would only switch if the direct store were genuinely better for you on price, stock or warranty.
Every other manufacturer and retailer named on this site is reference only: we cite their published specifications and we earn nothing if you visit them.
Why commission does not change the rankings
Commission rates vary by product category, and if we ranked on commission the order on this site would look different. It does not, for a practical reason as much as an ethical one: a site that recommends the wrong bow to a hunter with a shoulder injury does not get a second visit, and this site is built on repeat readers rather than one-time clicks.
Concretely: no manufacturer pays for a placement, none sees a page before it publishes, and nobody has ever sent us a product for coverage. The rubric is published on the methodology page and our independence rules are on the editorial policy page.
How prices on this site work
Prices come from Amazon through a live data layer and carry the date they were verified — currently October 6, 2026. They are not typed in by hand; there is no price field anywhere in this site’s content model, so a stale number cannot be authored in even by accident.
If the refresh stops for any reason, every price on the site disappears after 48 hours and the buy buttons fall back to “Check price”. We would rather show you nothing than show you a number that is no longer true.
Prices change constantly and the retailer’s page is always the authority. Where a page shows a discount, it is because Amazon reported one at the last refresh.
How our links are marked
- Every earning link carries rel=“sponsored nofollow noopener”, which is what Google’s link policy asks for.
- Every commercial page carries a disclosure above the first buy button, not only in the footer.
- Every buy button and price carries an #ad marker and a link back to this page.
- Links to manufacturers’ own sites, standards bodies and wildlife agencies are plain citations and earn nothing.
What we will never do
- Invent a review, a testimonial, a reviewer or a star rating. There is no testimonials section on this site.
- Publish a price we have not verified, or leave an old one up.
- Invent a specification. Where a maker publishes nothing, the page says so.
- Claim testing we have not done, or credentials this author does not hold.
- Fabricate a discount, a deal or a scarcity claim.
